Why Sports Medicine?

The benefits of sports medicine and rehabilitation go far beyond the realm of performance dogs. Not only do we specialize in the medical needs of active and athletic canines, but also the restoration of normal function after injury or illness. This means our rehabilitation therapies can treat canines with conditions including, but not not limited to acute injuries, chronic conditions, such as osteoarthritis or neurological conditions, and pain management in geriatric patients.
Rehabilitation Therapy

The goal of therapy is to optimize healing by decreasing inflammation and swelling, build muscle mass, increase range of motion, and improve overall comfort. All therapy plans are tailored to each individual patient for effective treatment and pain relief. Types of therapies we offer include:
Regenerative medicine therapy has become increasingly common in both humans and animals to treat osteoarthritis and soft tissue injury. Regenerative medicine harnesses the power of the body's own cells to promote healing. We offer both platelet rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy.
Musculoskeletal ultrasound is used to effectively diagnose disruption of tendons/ligaments, muscle lesions, older injuries with scar tissue or calcification, bursitis, and tenosynovitis. Musculoskeletal ultrasound can be used to monitor the progression of healing through the recovery period and confirm healing prior to return to full activity.
- Manual/massage therapy
- Laser therapy
- TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation)/NMES
- Therapeutic exercise

Orthopedic Devices
Orthotics (ie braces and wraps), prosthetics, and carts have become an integral component of many treatment plans for numerous orthopedic and neurological conditions. We work closely with certified orthotists and prosthetists to ensure our patients have the correct orthopedic device that fits well and enables your canine to achieve their highest musculoskeletal potential and function.
Initially, your pet will participate in an evaluation to provide an overall assessment. Recommendations for diagnostics will be given as needed in order to develop an appropriate treatment plan. For more information about sports medicine and rehabilitation for your dog, please call (937) 372-6391
