Veterinary Assistant
We are currently reviewing applications for our open position. Please read the following prior to applying.
We are seeking an energetic, people-person with a love for animals who excels at multi-tasking and keeping calm in a busy work environment. Our ideal candidate will have experience in both the veterinary industry and with customer service. Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent. This position will be 36-40 hours per week; evenings until ~6:30pm and Saturdays from 8am - ~ 2pm are a must.
We would like someone who wants to learn and grow with our busy practice and will enjoy a fulfilling, stable career helping pet owners care for their pets. Can you take patient history, administer medications, prepare laboratory specimens, fill prescriptions, sometimes all at the same time, while maintaining a cheerful attitude? Do you like working in a busy environment, with multiple activities happening at once? Can you maintain accuracy and attention to detail while dogs are barking in the background? Do you love pets and desire to help them lead long, healthy lives . . . but can you accept that we often help ill pets who may not get better?
Do you enjoy working with a team to accomplish the day’s demands? Can you handle occasional constructive criticism and the emotional roller coaster of assisting a client whose geriatric dog is failing, then turn around and welcome a new kitten and its owner to the practice? If you think this may be the place for you, please continue reading . . .
Primary Veterinary Assistant Duties:
The Veterinary Assistants at our clinic ensure that clients and pets are treated as family. Assistants facilitate the day’s appointments and same-day urgent care appointments by escorting clients to the exam room, recording the pet’s medical history, preparing medications, and entering charges. They restrain pets for various reasons, handle laboratory samples, help care for hospitalized patients, administer treatments and work closely with our 7 doctors and 5 Registered Technicians to meet the needs of the patient and owner.
There are many other minor duties, such as general cleaning, answering the phones, client education, unpacking and restocking inventory, scheduling appointments and more.
We are a Cat Friendly Practice and use many of the Fear Free techniques. We utilize Cornerstone software, Idexx in house lab machines, digital x-ray, including digital dental x-ray, Companion Therapy Laser, Ultrasound, and central oxygen and scavenger for WAGS. We have 6 exam rooms and a dedicated work space to complete electronic records. We carry Purina and Royal Canin diets.
Last, but certainly not least, presenting a cheerful attitude, being a team player and helping clients are critical to your success. Excellent attendance is paramount. We hope that you will love your job with us and have fun doing it. You will be well paid and we offer a variety of benefits, including paid time off, paid major holidays, sick pay, pet discount, uniform allowance, paid CE, and 401k plan. Health insurance, eye and dental insurance is available as well. We treat you the way we want to be treated. If you have read ALL of this and feel you are the person for this position, we would love for you to apply to join our hard-working, but fun-loving, work family!
